Hello and Welcome to Dan’s Lake & River Guide Service

Here is a little about myself. I have spent the last 33 years of my life targeting Lake Ontario and Salmon River fish. Being a full-time fisherman means that is all I do for a living, 365 day a year. Fishing is my life I eat, sleep and live fishing.

With my dad that loved fishing and 2 older brothers that got me interested in it at a very early age. When i was 5 1/2 years old I made the newspaper with 23 1/2 inches Brown Trout that I caught in a small stream with my dad and I was hooked. By the time I was in 2nd grade I caught my first King Salmon and Steelhead. School seems to take forever but soon as I was finished I was hired as a first mate by one of the most experienced Charter Boat Captain on Lake Ontario. That’s where I got most of my experience in the 14 years I spent mating on that boat.

We target many different kinds of fish depending on what time of year it is and what you want to catch. We offer charters on Lake Ontario from Spring (depending on season) to early Fall, drift boat fishing, fly fishing, spin fishing or back trolling. We also do a lot of bank guiding, wading to get us on giant Trout and Salmon in the smaller tributaries that can’t be fished from a boat. Just tell us what you want to catch and we can put you on any fish(Trout, Salmon, Walleye, Bass, Pike). We even offer Ice fishing for those who don’t mind braving the cold. Ice shanty and heaters are supplied on our trips.

During spring fishing in March we target Steelhead and Trout in all eastern Lake Ontario tributaries either by Drift boat fishing or wading the smaller streams. This last until about late April but a little longer in the Salmon River. April is also time for fishing Lake Ontario near the shore for Brown Trout that are seeking warmer water along the shoreline and baitfish. This will last until late June depending on the year and water temperature.

On the first Saturday of May Walleye season opens with excellent day or night fishing for giant Walleye near the inlets, harbors and on Oneida Lake as well. We can catch Walleye up to 13 pounds with the average fish weighing 6 pounds.

In late June thru September we troll Lake Ontario for giant King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Brown Trout, Steelhead and Lake Trout. The best Salmon action picks up thru July with August and mid-September are the best.

Depending on the year we may fish the mouth of the Salmon River and the shoreline which is a excellent time for King Salmon and Coho Salmon getting ready for their run up stream. This will last till early October when the Salmon must make their run up river to spawn. Then we move with the Salmon up river and target them as they migrate to their spawning area. This will last until about late October when we switch over to Trout and Steelhead. These fish will follow the Salmon up the river to feed on their eggs when very productive fishing goes thru winter into the next spring.
